Equine Photographer Monica Thors Showcases Her Talent on Her Tack Trunk
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., January 20, 2005
Equine photographer Monica Thors is a regular on the sidelines of Standardbred races throughout the country, capturing the images that tell the story of each race. In recent years, Monica has spent the majority of her time on the road, shooting up to 100 races annually. However, she is now turning her attention to racing her own horses and plans to only shoot the major races near her home in New Jersey.
In searching for a tack trunk for her racehorse Missy Anne, Thors desired a functional yet graphically superior design that would enable her to showcase the best shots from her storied career. She found what she was looking for in a tack trunk manufactured by Living Color Enterprises, Inc., headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
"I saw the tack trunk manufactured by Living Color in an ad and really liked the looks of it," said Thors. "It was a handsome-looking trunk with wonderful artwork -- very unique and different from any other I had seen."
The team at Living Color worked alongside Monica to create the design for her tack trunk. They agreed that a collage would best showcase her horse and began assembling a variety of images to demonstrate Missy Anne's racing season and Monica's 20-plus year career as one of the sport's top photographers.
"Everyone comments on how beautiful my tack trunk is," added Thors. "The reproduction of the photographs is amazing and the trunk is very functional too. It is larger and taller than most tack trunks, so I have lots of extra space."
"Through digital technology, we can customize the exterior of the tack trunk to match any color and logo design," said Paige Rosen, director of special projects for Living Color Enterprises, Inc. "For example, we added depth to one tack trunk by changing colors on the panels to create a 3-D pattern. For another customer, we included faux wood as a design element to make the trunk more elegant."
The Living Color tack trunk measures 35 ½" L x 23 ¾" W x 30" H. A shipping trunk is also available, at 31-1/4"L x 19-1/4"W x 19-1/4"H. Both the tack trunk and shipping trunk are constructed of pre-finished maple on both the inside and outside that is resistant to mold, mildew and odors. In addition, the trunks are secured using nickel screws and nylon-coated tension latches, and all of the edges are wrapped in heavy-grade aluminum to prevent deterioration. The interior of the trunks feature solid hardwood interior slides and were built with extra support to handle heavy loads. The tack trunk comes with a dry-erase calendar mounted inside the lid, and an optional non-breakable mirror is available as well. Other options include castors and double handles.
